The full rosters for the 2017 Home Run Derby haven’t been announced just yet, but at least we have the most important news out of the way: Aaron Judge will participate.
Baseballs will be murdered, but that’s what they get for choosing to be baseballs. Judge made the announcement on the Yankees’ official Twitter account, confirming our deepest, basest home run hopes (and bringing Gary Sanchez along with him.)
You've asked, he's answered. Check out which Yankee(s) are headed to Miami to participate in the HR Derby... pic.twitter.com/OoUxIaWFuo— Text A3 to 89269 (@Yankees) July 3, 2017
While Judge topped my list of Derby participants I wanted to see, I’ll be honest and point out that he was also the only one I really cared about. I would have been OK with “Aaron Judge Takes Batting Practice For a Full Hour, Presented by State Farm.” That he’ll get to compete against Sanchez, Miguel Sano, and Cody Bellinger is just icing on the cake.
Anyone up for a final round between Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, with the winner climbing on the shoulders of the runner-up and riding him like a large mastodon around the ballpark? Yes. Yes, I think we all are, thank you.
