No big medals will be handed out on Sunday evening at the 2018 Winter Olympics, but there will be one big event: the figure skating ice dancing short program. That means Maia and Alex Shibutani will be representing the United States once again, with a strong chance at earning a podium spot and even the gold medal.
The ice dancing short program will begin at 8 p.m. ET, and will be broadcast by NBC. There will also be live streaming online, via NBC Olympics (enhanced, non-enhanced) or FuboTV (NBC simulcast).
The NBC primetime block will begin at 7 p.m., an hour before the ice dancing short program. There will be other sports covered during the primetime block, which will run until around midnight. That primetime block will also include the women’s 500-meter speed skating competition, the two-man bobsledding event, and the women’s freestyle skiing halfpipe qualifying.
The latter event is one of the strongest events for the United States, so it’s definitely one to watch.
The Shibutanis aren’t the only Americans competing in the ice dance short program. Right after the Shibutanis is the American team of Madison Chock and Evan Bates. The third and final U.S. team in the program is the team of Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue, who will start 22nd out of 24 teams.
All three American teams can count themselves among the top ice dance teams in the world. But there are some other strong teams, so even a podium isn’t guaranteed. The ice dancing will wrap up with the free dance on Monday.
