Canada and the Czech Republic face off for the men’s hockey bronze medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics on Saturday morning. The game begins at 7:10 a.m. ET and will be broadcast live on NBCSN in addition to live streaming coverage.
This matchup comes as a bit of a surprise after Canada was stunned by Germany, 4-3, in the semifinals. It’s just the second time in 30 international games that Canada has ever lost to the Germans, so they’ll surely be looking for some redemption by at least leaving Pyeongchang with the bronze medal.
Former NHL forward Rene Bourque leads the Canadians with three goals in five games, while winger Maxim Noreau has recorded two goals and five assists. Goaltenders Ben Scrivens and Kevin Poulin have posted save percentages of .929 and .918, respectively.
The Czech Republic knocked Team USA out of the tournament with a 3-2 shootout win in the quarterfinals, but failed to get on the scoreboard in a 3-0 loss to Olympic Athletes from Russia in the semifinals.
The last time that the Czechs left the Olympics with a medal was in 2006 when they won bronze. Led by team captain and former NHL winger Martin Erat, they’ll be looking to get back on the podium this weekend.
