Winnipeg Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey has been suspended one game for cross-checking Minnesota Wild center Eric Staal, the NHL’s department of player safety announced Wednesday.

Morrisey hit Staal in the head with his stick late in the first period of the Jets’ Game 4 win over the Wild on Tuesday night at Xcel Energy Center. Staal fell to the ice in pain and was slow to get to his feet before heading to the bench.

Here’s a closer look at the play:

Morrisey’s play went unnoticed by officials and play continued. He later was credited with an assist on Mark Scheifele’s goal. The Jets would go on to win the game, 2-0, and go up 3-1 in the first-round series.

Staal later returned to the game.

The Jets hold a 3-1 series lead and look to win their first playoff series in franchise history Friday at home.
