Betting can cause you to cheer and scream and make you a lot of money. Or it could force you to scream for totally different reasons while you lose a lot of money. If you’re considering placing a bet on an NFL game this weekend, you’re in luck! SB Nation’s gambling guru David Fucillo is here to offer his four best tips on how to smartly place your money for the Week 3 slate of NFL games.

49ers vs. Chiefs (Sunday, 1 p.m. ET; Fox)

No game has more money bet on it, according to sportsbook operator William Hill. 87 percent of the money bet on this game at their sportsbooks has been on the Chiefs. When the public is so heavy on one side, it is worth considering the other side. Look for a shootout with neither defense doing a whole lot of much. I wouldn’t touch either side necessarily but if you’re going to bet the game, take the over on 55.5 points.

Quick advice: Don’t bet on Chiefs; consider the over.

Bills vs. Vikings (Sunday, 1 p.m. ET; CBS)

The Vikings are a 16.5-point favorite, the biggest spread through three weeks. The public money is on Minnesota, who seemingly should be in line to crush Buffalo. Sharp money will be on the Bills, and if you can get this line at 17 instead of 16.5, it might be worth a crack on the heavy underdogs.

Quick advice: Consider betting on the underdog Bills if the line is at 17.

Saints vs. Falcons (Sunday, 1 p.m. ET; Fox)

The Saints barely held off the Browns in Week 2, but remember that Browns defensive coordinator Gregg Williams likely had that game circled all offseason. The Saints visit a Falcons team with a banged up defense, and now guard Ben Garland has been added to the injury report as a limited participant. The Saints are the side to take as a field goal underdog.

Quick advice: Consider betting on the 1-1 Saints.

Bears vs. Cardinals (4:25 p.m. ET; Fox)

Chicago is coming off back-to-back strong defensive efforts to open the season, while Arizona plain stinks. The Bears are a 6-point favorite, with 86 percent of tickets and 59 percent of money wagered at William Hill on Chicago. However, they’re traveling west on a short week, off the high of back-to-back wild, primetime games. And even with a red-hot defense, the Chicago offense has not been impressive after getting through the opening script. The Cardinals would seem to be the better play.

Quick advice: If you’re betting on this game, go with the 0-2 Cardinals.
