Steve Lavin got the Johnnies to the tournament in 2011, his first season in Queens, but this is their first trip back since his cancer scare later that year. This tourney team took time to craft. The three players who spend the most time on the court are all seniors: leading scorer D'Angelo Harrison, dynamic two-way menace Sir'Dominic Pointer, and shooting guard Phil Greene IV.

Style of play: Red Dead Rejections

St. John's blocks 17.9 percent of opposing shots, the third-best figure in the nation behind just Texas and Kentucky. The Red Storm play a decent amount of 2-3 zone, and that leaves lanky 6'10 shotblocker Chris Obekpa right in front of the hoop, ready to swat. (Note: Obekpa was suspended by St. John's for two weeks on Selection Sunday.) Pointer is a menace too, swooping to erase shots from places shooters would never expect.

Key player: YesSir'

We don't know for sure what earned Sir'Dominic Pointer his knighthood, so we'll assume it's his tremendous athleticism. One of the most versatile two-way players in college hoops, the 6'6 senior is a tough-to-stop scorer inside, a springy out-from-nowhere shotblocker, and second on the team in assists. If he's shooting, though, that's a problem.

Q: Who? A: Chris Obekpa

Obekpa decided his long shorts were restricting his running, so the Nigerian-born shotblocker began rolling them up and taping them, allowing the world to see precious extra inches of his lengthy legs. Eventually, somebody must have put the word in to Under Armour, because by December he'd been fitted with a custom pair of short shorts. (Note: Obekpa was suspended by St. John's for two weeks on Selection Sunday.)
