Charlotte Hornets

The Hornet’s breakout player will be…

The Charlotte Hornets breakout player will be Terry Rozier. The team has low expectations and is going to be counting on young, inexperienced players to do a lot of the heavy lifting. Rozier is going to be in charge of the youth movement, and he’s going to put up big numbers as a result. Whether or not those numbers come efficiently is another story entirely.

It all goes wrong if…

It all goes wrong if the young players don’t jell and develop, both on and off the court. The 2019-20 season has been pegged a transition year by the front office, and it could be the first of many. The organization is banking on some of its future residing on the current roster. If none of the young guys step up and make that projection a reality, the Hornets’ future will look very bleak. Along with that, the young core of the team will have their resolve tested by a lot of losses.

What we’ll be saying about the Hornet at the end of the season…

We’ll have a positive way to spin the future of the franchise, no matter how this season goes. If the Hornets bottom out and lose a bunch of games, people will have high lottery pick to look forward to for the first time in several years. If the young players outperform expectations and fight for a playoff post, then the team will be further along than they originally planned.

Final prediction

The team’s over/under for the 2019-20 season is 23.5, and that seems like a reasonable projection for this roster. The team will probably finish the season in that ballpark, but if I had to guess, I’d take the under. The Hornets will probably finish with a similar record to last season’s cellar dwellers.

Final prediction: 20-62
