Tyron Woodley knocked out Robbie Lawler in the first round to claim the UFC welterweight title.

Tyron Woodley smashed Robbie Lawler in the face for a title-taking instant knock out in the first round of their UFC 201 welterweight title fight on Saturday night in Atlanta, Georgia. Woodly caught Lawler with a huge overhand right that dropped the champ. He immediately followed up with multiple smashing shots to the head. The 2:12 finish was the fastest finish in UFC welterweight history.

Woodly is expected to face Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson in his first title defense.

Karolina Kowalkiewicz made her dreams of an all-Polish UFC title fight by edging Rose Namajunas in a split-decision title eliminator in the co-main event. Namajunas seemed to have the edge at range and maybe on the ground, but the Pole had the edge in the clinch. Kowalkiewicz hurt Namajunas repeatedly with knees and elbows on the inside.

Jake Ellenberger dropped Matt Brown with a huge right hand in the very first exchange. Brown managed to survive the ensuing ground and pound onslaught and got back to his feet. For a moment it looked as if Brown had turned things around, tagging Ellenberger with repeated straight punches and driving him back against the cage. Then Ellenberger landed a devastating liver kick, followed it up on the ground and that was that. Enormous upset win for Ellenberger.

After a very close opening round, Erik Perez used his technical advantages to pull ahead of Francisco Rivera in the second. He almost threw it away by letting Rivera lure him into a wild brawl to open the third, but managed to hold it together en route to a unanimous decision win.

Flyweights Ryan Benoit and Freddy Serrano opened the pay-per-view with a back and forth battle that saw Serrano dominate on the ground and Benoit edge him on the feet. Two of the judges thought that was enough to give Benoit the split-decision nod.

In the preliminary headliner on Fox Sports 2, Nikita Krylov finished Ed Herman with a face-planting walk-away head kick KO early in the second round. Herman was out-classed at range throughout the fight and couldn't keep the fight at clinching range long enough to overcome Krylov.

Jorge Masvidal dropped Ross Pearson a couple of times en route to a unanimous decision win. Masvidal couldn't finish Pearson when he had him hurt but the outcome was never seriously in doubt.

Heavyweight Anthony Hamilton blasted Damien Grabowski into unconsciousness in just 14 seconds with a flurry of thunderous punches.

Former jiu-jitsu champ Wilson Reis made short work of Hector Sandoval, scoring a submission via rear naked choke in the first round. Reis had been set to fight Demetrious Johnson for the flyweight title when Johnson got hurt. Reis risked his shot against the dangerous Sandoval and made it pay off.

Despite dominating his opponent for most of the second and third rounds, Michael Graves had to settle for a majority draw against Bojan Velickovic. One judge scored it 30-28 for Graves but the other two had it a 28-28.

In the fight pass opener, Aussie Damien Brown kept catching Cesar Arzamendia with right hooks that dropped him and eventually knocked him out cold in the first round.

Brock Lesnar wrestled his way to a decision victory over Mark Hunt in his first MMA fight in five years. In the main event, Amanda Nunes submitted Miesha Tate to take the UFC women's bantamweight belt.

Amanda Nunes beat up and then choked out Miesha Tate to claim the women's bantamweight belt in one round at UFC 200 on Saturday night in Las Vegas. The belt that Ronda Rousey owned for so long has now been passed around to four different women in three fights, from Rousey to Holly Holm to Tate and now to Nunes.

Nunes used precision punching to hurt Tate on the feet. She quickly took her down and choked out the bloodied Tate.

Former UFC champ Brock Lesnar managed to implement his wrestling game against kickboxer Mark Hunt. Lesnar took a unanimous decision win after implementing a classic ground and pound game in two of the three rounds and surviving virtually unscathed on the feet.

Daniel Cormier was supposed to headline this card but when USADA informed the UFC that Jon Jones failed a drug test and couldn't fight, DC was lucky to have a fight. The legendary Anderson Silva stepped up on 2 days notice, coming off gall bladder surgery only weeks ago to give Cormier a foe.

The fight itself was less dramatic. Cormier used his wrestling to dominate on the ground Silva for most of the fight. Silva landed a body kick late in the fight that briefly stunned Cormier, but it was too little, too late and DC got the unanimous decision.

Jose Aldo impressed with dominant five round decision win over Frankie Edgar to take the interim featherweight title. Edgar came out agressive early but Aldo cracked him hard at the end of the first round. Eventually Edgar eroded under Aldo's sustained assault, bloodied and slowing he fought hard to the end but only took a single round on most of the judges cards.

Former heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez impressed with a first round demolition of Travis Browne. He shocked Browne with a wheel kick to the head and followed with a crushing left hand that dropped "Hapa." Browne survived the initial follow up but Velasquez got him down and pounded him out with only three seconds left in the first round.

Juliana Pena survived a rough opening against Cat Zingano to notch a unanimous decision win in the Fox Sports 1 prelims featured bout. Zingano threw Pena early with a hip toss and follow up with ground and pound but couldn't get the finish. Pena came back in the later rounds and nearly finished Zingano with a rear naked choke but couldn't get the tap.

Kelvin Gastelum, the youngest-ever Ultimate Fighter, beat ex-champ Johny Hendricks via unanimous decision. Hendricks missed weight for the bout, only nine months after pulling out of a UFC 192 bout against Tyrone Woodley due to weight cut related health woes.

Former bantamweight champ T.J. Dillashaw avenged a 2013 split decision loss to Raphael Assuncao with a clear unanimous decision win. Dillashaw continually popped Assuncao with hard counter rights that the Brazilian had no answer for.

Much hyped 20-year-old prospect Sage Northcutt survived several close submission attempts from Enrique Marin en route to a unanimous decision win.

Veteran Joe Lauzon became the first man to finish Diego Sanchez in the Fight Pass prelims headliner. Lauzon caught Sanchez with a left hook that dropped him and followed up with precision punching until the ref was forced to make the stoppage to protect an out on his feet Diego.

In the night's second fight, middleweight Gegard Mousasi utterly dominated Thiago Santos before getting the TKO finish at 4:32 of round 1. Mousasi stunned Santos on the feet, battered him on the ground.and then caught Santos with an uppercut that finished him as he tried to stand up.

In the Fight Pass opener, veteran Jim Miller made quick work of legendary Pride champion Takanori Gomi. Miller took Gomi down and finished him with ground and pound at 2:18 of the first.

Michael Bisping shocked the MMA world by KO'ing Luke Rockhold in the first round at UFC 199 to take the middleweight title. Bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz took a unanimous decision win over bitter rival Urijah Faber in the co-main event.

Very few expected Michael Bisping to take the UFC middleweight title on Saturday night at UFC 199, but the British underdog shocked the world. Bisping caught Rockhold with a combination in the first round that forced the stoppage.

Bisping, a long-time contender in the UFC who had never earned a title shot, said afterwards that it was "the easiest fight of my life."

Rockhold admitted he "took (Bisping) for granted before the fight" and said he "should have fought my fight and not played around with him."

Bisping came in on only 17 days notice when former champ Christ Weidman pulled out of the event with a neck injury.

In the co-main event, bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz thoroughly dominated Urijah Faber. Cruz took a unanimous decision, winning all five rounds on two of the three judges' cards. Faber called Cruz's performance "a perfect fight" in his gracious post-fight statement.

Max Holloway emphatically established himself as a top contender for Conor McGregor's featherweight title with a unanimous decision win over fifth-ranked Ricardo Lamas. Holloway landed combination after combination and yet Lamas refused to be put away. The outcome was never in doubt and the 24-year-old Holloway seems to have a title shot in his future.

Veteran Dan Henderson burnished his legend with an incredible come from behind KO in the second round of his bout with Hector Lombard. The fight was back and forth from the beginning, with Hendo hurting Lombard early in the opener only to nearly get finished by a barrage of brutal strikes later in the round. Henderson dropped Lombard with an improbable high kick/reverse elbow combination, then finished him with a diving pair of elbows on the ground.

Dustin Poirier punished Bobby Green for obscene trash talk and finished his brash rival with punches in one round in the pay-per-view opener.

Brian Ortega took a while to get started against Clay Guida and was in real danger of getting a loss if the fight had gone to the judges. Ortega didn't let that happen though and finished Guida with a vicious knee to the head late in the third round of their Fox Sports 1 headliner.

Beneil Dariush got back on the winning track, beating James Vick up one side of the Octagon and down the other before it was stopped towards the end of the first round.

Jessica Andrade sent a message in her strawweight debut, demolishing former #1 contender Jessica Penne by TKO in the second round.

Alex "Bruce LeRoy" Caceres dropped Clay Miller early with a sharp left and utterly dominated the first two rounds of their Fox Sports 1 card opener. Miller came back strong in the third against a fading Caceres but couldn't get the finish, despite threatening with a tight armbar. It was too little, too late and Caceres took home the unanimous decision.

Sean Strickland used his sharp jab to edge Tom Breese in the featured bout on the Fight Pass card. Strickland took home the split decision win following a very close and not too exciting bout.

Luis Henrique da Silva survived some scares against Jonathan Wilson to emerge as the winner in a battle of two previously unbeaten prospects.

Muhammad Ali's son-in-law Kevin Casey was frustrated to have his bout against Elvis Mutapcic ruled a split draw. Casey dominated the first round and much of the second with his jiu-jitsu but Mutapcic came back strong in the second half of the fight and dominated a tired Casey on the feet.

Marco Polo Reyes and Dong Hyun Kim engaged in a wild brawl that saw both men give and receive numerous hard shots to the head. Reyes got the better of it, finally finishing the game Kim with a trio of hard right hands late in the third round.

Stipe Miocic dethroned Fabricio Werdum to take the UFC heavyweight title at UFC 198 in Brazil. In the co-main event, Jacare Souza demolished Vitor Belfort in under one round.

Stipe Miocic stopped Fabricio Werdum cold to take the UFC heavyweight title Saturday night at UFC 198. Werdum charged wildly into a Miocic counter that sent the champ sprawling to the mat.

Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza sent a message to the UFC middleweight division with a one-round demolition of the legendary Vitor Belfort. Souza took Belfort down early, beat him up with elbows, got mount and proceeded to beat him up until the ref had to intervene.

Invicta's 145-pound champ Cris Cyborg came to the UFC for the first time in a catchweight 140-pound bout against Leslie Smith. Cyborg made quick work of the over-matched Smith, winning by TKO in less than two minutes.

Legendary former UFC and Pride champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua edged past Corey Anderson via split decision. Rua nearly KO'd Anderson at the end of the first round but couldn't quite finish his foe. Anderson came back to score multiple take downs but it wasn't enough to sway the judges.

American Bryan Barberena was the first non-Brazilian fighter to win at UFC 198 with a decision over Warlley Alves to kick off the pay-per-view card.

Demian Maia spent the best part of three rounds on Matt Brown's back before finally sinking in the rear naked choke with just 30 seconds left of their Fox Sports 1 preliminaries headliner.

Thiago Santos only needed part of one round to finish veteran Nate Marquardt with a battery of punches. The win was the fourth straight UFC victory for the Brazilian middleweight.

Francisco Trinaldo got the better of Yancy Medeiros in a wild three-round slobber knocker that somehow went to a decision. Both men endured brutal blows with Trinaldo stunning Medeiros badly in the first and final rounds and Medeiros hurting Trinaldo in the second.

Bantamweight John Lineker dominated Rob Font en route to a unanimous decision win. Lineker battered Font with combination punching to the body and head and got two knockdowns in the opening round but couldn't get the finish.

Legendary veteran Antonio Rogerio Nogueira got his first win since 2013 with a first-round TKO over Patrick Cummins. Little Nog's punching combinations were sharp and Cummins could not implement his wrestling game.

The second fight of the night between Brazilian welters Sergio Moraes and Luan Chagas was ruled a draw by the judges. Chagas almost KO'd Moraes with a high kick early on but was unable to finish him and Moraes did enough in the rest of the fight to stymie the judges.

In the opening fight of the night, Brazilian Renato Moicano took home a split decision against Russia's Zubaira Tukhugov.

Jon Jones took the interim UFC light heavyweight title with a unanimous decision win over Ovince Saint Preux. Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson finished Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo in the first round to retain his title.

A rusty Jon Jones went the distance with Ovince Saint Preux to take the UFC interim light heavyweight title at UFC 197. Jones dominated all five rounds and almost finished OSP in the fourth round. The win sets up Jones for a title unification bout against current LHW champ Daniel Cormier.

Jones came out aggressive, landing front kicks to the knee of Saint Preux, a move many view as a dirty attack. Saint Preux tried to slow the pace and seemed to confuse Jones momentarily with his awkward movement but Jones quickly landed a brutal body kick. Jones began to cut off the cage and back Saint Preux into the fence. Jones scored again with a side kick to the gut. Jones swept OSP to the ground towards the end of the first but Saint Preux popped right back up.

In the second OSP came out aggressive and landed a flurry of punches. Jones quickly fired back and retook the initiative. Jones endured another couple tough exchanges then forced a clinch and began to batter OSP. But Saint Preux escaped and landed a hard punch. Jones' oblique kicks started to really hurt OSP but Saint Preux landed some sharp jabs and ended the round with a hard left in response to a spinning back kick to the head that landed.

Jones came out working the leg attacks in the third. OSP answered with some sharp jabs and 1-2 combos. Jones landed a spinning elbow. Jones tried to push OSP back but Saint Preux wouldn't have it. OSP landed a sharp punch but ate three or four kicks in return.

Jones pushed OSP against the fence and slammed him down early in the fourth, but OSP was able to quickly force a scramble and get back to his feet. Jones landed a pair of spinning elbows and pressed OSP back to the cage and again slammed OSP down. This time he got right to side control and began to work elbows from the top. OSP briefly reversed but Jones took him right back down and got mount position. OSP then gave up his back and Jones began to rain down blows. Jones stood up and rained down damage to end the round but OSP survived.

Jones opened the final round with more oblique strikes to OSP's knees. Jones landed another spinning kick to the body. Jones again pressed Saint Preux against the cage and slammed him to the ground with about two minutes left. Jones let him right back up but OSP's left arm dragged limp after the take down.

Jones returned to action after an 18 month layoff following a guilty plea for leaving the scene of an accident. The UFC stripped Jones of his title following the incident and suspended him for six months. He was set to rematch the current LHW champ Daniel Cormier Saturday but Cormier had to pull out with an injured leg. Jones decisions Cormier at UFC 182 in January, 2015.

Flyweight champ Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson destroyed Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo with knees in the clinch for a first round finish. Cejudo got a very slick takedown the first time they locked up but did little with it. Johnson bounced right back up and from there the clinch became a fatal morass Cejudo could not escape. Johnson landed knee after knee, leavened with punches and elbows until Cejudo fell from a knee to the liver and was finished with a barrage of punches.

Edson Barboza utterly outstruck Anthony Pettis en route to a unanimous decision win. The former UFC LW champ Pettis opened up aggressive but Barboza started to connect with the left hook and that quickly changed the dynamic of the bout. After eating a spinning kick to the middle, Pettis was the first to attempt a take down but got stuffed.

Pettis came out aggressive in the second but quickly ate another left hook. Barboza fired off a high kick that Pettis blocked. Pettis landed some slick punching combinations but Barboza responded with much harder strikes. A kick to the body late in the round really hurt Pettis.

Pettis missed with a capoeira wheel kick off a handspring to open the third. Barboza soon landed three unanswered shots in response. Barboza started picking Pettis apart as the final round progressed with brutal inside leg kicks. Barboza landed a spinning head kick near the end the fight. Pettis tried to answer but came up short again.

Aussie Robert Whittaker edged Brazilian Rafael Natal in a wild brawl. Whittaker hurt Natal badly in the first and again in the final seconds of the third, but couldn't finish the hard-headed Sapo. Natal's leg kicks were hurtful but no match for Whittaker's combination punching to the head.

Hot prospect Yair Rodriguez scored his first UFC finish with a spectacular flying roundhouse kick that put Andre Fili out cold early in the second round. Rodriguez' Taekwondo style and high-risk, high-reward approach to fighting makes him one of the hottest young talents in the UFC today. Rodriguez dominated the first round, mostly with grappling. Fili hung tough until he rubbed his eye after trading punches with Rodriguez. That moment of distraction was what Yair had been waiting for and he leapt in for the killshot immediately.

Sergio Pettis made it two straight decision wins by dominating Chris Kelades in the Fox Sports 1 prelims headliner.

Danny Roberts beat Dominique Steele in a hard-fought back and forth battle that ended in a unanimous decision.

Carla Esparza got back on the winning track after losing badly in a title shot. She dominated Juliana Lima with strong grappling over three long rounds en route to sweeping every round on all three judges' cards.

James Vick remained undefeated with a dominant decision win over Glaico Francavia. Vick pulled away after an eye poke that Ref. Dan Miragliotta missed and battered the half-blind Francavia at range for the remainder of the bout.

Walt Harris finished Cody East in a wild brawl to close the UFC Fight Pass preliminary card.

Marcos Rogerio de Lima beat up Clint Hester with ground and pound before finishing him with an arm triangle choke in the first round of their Fight Pass bout.
