While some were putting No. 22 Massachusetts on upset alert Wednesday night, the undefeated Minutemen went into Athens and methodically brought down the Ohio Bobcats, 83-71.
Maxie Esho came off the bench to score 16 points on 7-9 shooting, well above his average of just over seven points per game, to lead UMass in scoring. Chaz Williams continued to show why he is one of that nation's best guards. He handed out 10 assists and scored 11 points.
Though this was supposed to be a tough road game, UMass never trailed. The Minutemen scored the first six points of the game and took their first double-digit lead on three-point play from Sampson Carter just seven minutes in. By the time the first half ended, UMass had already put up 45 points to take an 11-point lead into the locker room.
And the hot shooting didn't stop there. The Minutemen shot 60.4 percent for the game with a crisp 9-14 mark from three. Carter led the perimeter attack, making all three of his attempts.
