Markel Brown led the No. 6 Oklahoma State Cowboys with 18 points Monday, and they cruised past the Robert Morris Colonials 92-66 in the Cowboys' non-conference closer.
Point guard Marcus Smart had his second low-scoring performance in Oklahoma State's last three games, finishing with seven points on 3-of-5 shooting and a season-high eight assists. He played 19 minutes and finished with two turnovers. For the second time in three outings Smart finished in single figures. He had eight points in a 75-43 win over the Delaware State Hornets on Dec. 17.
Monday's game was just the seventh time in 46 career games Smart finished with fewer than 10 points.
Smart scored the Cowboys' first five points, and Oklahoma State started the game with nine unanswered to establish an early lead. The Colonials got within five points at 9-4, and the Cowboys reeled off another nine in a row. Robert Morris would never get any closer than nine points the rest of the way.
Stevie Clark had nine points and eight assists off the bench for Oklahoma State (12-1).
With the win, the Cowboys maintained a five-game winning streak heading into Big 12 play. Oklahoma State's conference opener is Saturday on the road against the Kansas State Wildcats.
