In 2012, there was a clear No. 1 overall seed, Kentucky, the squad that happened to win the national championship. This season, the top nod, and the entire one line on the seed list for that matter, is not quite so clear cut.

The biggest loser so far on busy Friday night is Kentucky, which left the Selection Committee with an awful final impression, a 64-48 loss at the hands of Vanderbilt.

Bubble teams take costly defeats
Four bubble teams took the floor in the second Friday afternoon window of games. Only one left with a win. As a result there are some changes near the cut line two days from the release of the actual bracket.

Bracketology: Now things get interesting
Bucknell clinched the only automatic bid on offer on Wednesday night, while Cincinnati and Villanova took major steps toward earning an at-large. As the major conference tournaments really get started today, more teams get the chance to do the same.

Regulars Davidson, Iona and Western Kentucky all clinched bids on Monday night, while James Madison ended a 19-season drought. However, Gonzaga may have had the biggest night of all in claiming the WCC crown and staking its claim for a No. 1 seed.

The Bluejays' and Flames' tournament wins on Sunday mean a total of five teams have booked an NCAA place, with five more to come on Monday. On the bubble, Virginia beat Maryland in overtime, but the Cavaliers remain out for now.
