UCLA coaching search: Brad Stevens is Bruins' top target, per report

Butler's Brad Stevens is UCLA's top target, and the two sides are reportedly working on a contract negotiation.

The UCLA basketball program may be closing in on their new head coach. Butler's Brad Stevens is their top target to replace Ben Howland, according to ESPN's Andy Katz. Sources also told ESPN that the two sides are working on a contract negotiation.

Stevens has not confirmed or denied that he's interested in the job, texting "As you know, my stance is to not comment on any other speculation or situation."

Stevens has been one of the hottest coaching names for years ever since taking over as head coach for the Butler Bulldogs. He led the program to its greatest heights, taking the Bulldogs to two straight national championship games in 2010 and 2011.

UCLA fired Howland on Sunday after a disappointing exit in the round of 64. They were rumored to be pursuing Shaka Smart early on, but Smart signed a 10-year extension to stay with VCU. They have also been linked to N.C. State's Mark Gottfried and Washington's Lorenzo Romar.
