The Longwood Lancers finished in a tie for last place in their conference this season while finishing with the worst overall record in the league, but that didn't stop them from moving on to the quarterfinals of the 2013 Big South Conference Tournament with an 87-72 victory over the third-seeded UNC-Asheville Bulldogs on Tuesday.

Tristan Carey scored 21 points for the Lancers, who had four players finish in double-digits in scoring. Meanwhile, Longwood's defense held Asheville to 36.1 percent from the field. The Lancers will face VMI, which finished in second place in the North division in the regular season, in the next round.

In the other No. 3-vs.-No. 6 matchup, Campbell dispatched of Presbyterian, setting up a meeting between the Camels and Gardner-Webb in the quarterfinals.

High Point, the No. 1 seed out of the North division, will face Liberty in the second round. Liberty used a big second half to eliminate Coastal Carolina to cap off the opening round.

Winthrop ousted Radford in the opening game of the tournament, and will move on to face Charleston Southern, the top seed out of the South division.

The Big South quarterfinals will tip off from the HTC Center in Conway, S.C., at noon ET on Thursday.
