Mike Rice fired at Rutgers

Rutgers has sacked its head coach in connection to abuse of players.

Elsa

Rutgers head coach Mike Rice has been fired, the school announced on Wednesday. Video surfaced on Tuesday showing the coach verbally abusing and throwing basketballs at the heads of his players. Rice was suspended in December for his actions. With the behavior now public, the school was feeling plenty of pressure from media and fans to let the head coach go.

The news of Rice's actions has brought with it a small exodus of players from the Rutgers basketball program. News of Jerome Seagears and Vincent Garrett transferring surfaced on Wednesday. Last week it was announced that Malick Kone will be leaving Rutgers.

Rice has coached at Rutgers since 2010, compiling a 44-51 overall record and never finishing higher than 11th in the Big East. He came over from Robert Morris, where he made two straight NCAA Tournament appearances.
