Chris Mullin landed a talented Italian point guard for next season on Monday morning. Federico Mussini has committed to St. John's over Gonzaga, Virginia, Providence and more, according to multiple reports. Mussini will be 19 years old for next season.
Mussini measured at 6'1, 154 pounds at the 2015 Nike Hoops Summit, where he competed with the international team. He also played in the 2012 Jordan Brand Classic and shined at the FIBA U18 World Championship a year ago. Mussini averaged 22.6 points and shot nearly 43 percent from three-point range during the tournament.
St. John's needed to add talent in the backcourt after the graduation of D'Angelo Harrison and Rysheed Jordan's decision to leave school to pursue professional opportunities. Mussini is considered a talented shooter and ball handler who has said he patterns his game after Stephen Curry.
Mussini scored nine points and made 2-of-3 three-pointers at the Hoops Summit.
