Duke is going all-out for 5-star point guard Dennis Smith

The super talented point guard drew a crowd in Georgia on Thursday.

The start of the July evaluation period offers a hint at the recruiting priorities for major college basketball programs around the country. With Nike's Peach Jam happening in South Carolina, adidas' Gauntlet Finale staged in Georgia and Under Armour's All-American Camp taking place in Charlotte, coaches can't be at all three gyms at once.

Judging by where Duke showed up on Wednesday, it's clear the Blue Devils are all in on class of 2016 point guard Dennis Smith.

Mike Krzyzewski was joined by assistants Jon Scheyer and Jeff Capel to watch Smith and Team Loaded NC at the adidas event, according to Zags Blog. Smith is considered the No. 4 player in the class of the 2016 by most rankings -- behind Duke targets Harry Giles and Jayson Tatum, and also wing Josh Smith. He is ranked as the No. 1 point guard in the class by ESPN.

Smith is an ultra-talented offensive player with speed, shooting range and explosiveness to get to the rim. Via ZagsBlog:

Smith said Louisville is recruiting him hardest right now, and also listed North Carolina, Kansas, N.C. State, Wake Forest and Florida as suitors.

Duke lost a freshman point guard from the class of 2014 when Tyus Jones left for the NBA after just one season. Is Coach K worried new point guard Derryck Thornton could do the same?
