Here’s how you can play a college basketball version of NBA 2K17

New, comments

On PlayStation 4 and XBox One, users can turn NBA 2K17 into a college basketball version of the video game thanks to community uploads.

The last time 2K Sports released a college basketball video game, Greg Oden was on the cover in an Ohio State jersey. In the nine years that have passed since the release of ‘College Hoops 2K8,’ basketball fans have been starving for a new game. While that wait continues, NBA 2K17 owners on PlayStation 4 and XBox One can have the next best thing thanks to the hard work of community uploaders.

A user named SkillazKill has created 36 college teams and 198 players on the PlayStation 4 version of NBA 2K17 available to be downloaded. If you follow the directions in the video below, you can turn franchise mode into the closest thing to a new college hoops game.

The level of detail in this is impressive. In addition to creating the schools, uniforms and rosters, there’s also arenas and coaches that look pretty close to the real thing. Check out Indiana’s court and virtual Jim Boeheim:

This is also available for XBox One now. There are a few different users to choose from, including the user that made this tutorial on how to set everything up.

Not bad at all. For the PlayStation version from SkillazKill, here’s the list of teams available with the NBA counterparts you can swap out by watching the video embedded above.

Atlantic (ACC) Duke Blue Devils (Celtics), Florida State Seminoles (Nets), Louisville Cardinals (Knicks), Miami Hurricanes (76ers), NC State Wolfpack (Galatasary Istanbul), North Carolina Tar Heels (Raptors).

Central (A10/ACC/Big 12) Clemson Tigers (Bulls), Dayton Flyers (Cavaliers), Notre Dame Fighting Irish (Pistons), Syracuse Orange (Pacers), Texas Longhorns (Fenerbahce Istanbul), Virginia Cavaliers (Bucks).

Southeast (SEC/American) Kentucky Wildcats (Hawks), Vanderbilt Commodores (Hornets), Texas A&M Aggies (Wizards), Florida Gators (Heat), Cincinnati Bearcats (Unicaja Malaga), UCONN Huskies (Magic).

Northwest (Big 10) Indiana Hoosiers (Nuggets), Michigan Wolverines (Brose Baskets), Maryland Terrapins (Timberwolves), Michigan State Spartans (Thunder), Purdue Boilermakers (Jazz), Wisconsin Badgers (Trail Blazers).

Pacific (Pac-12/West Coast) Arizona Wildcats (Clippers), California Golden Bears (Warriors), Oregon Ducks (Suns), Saint Mary's Gaels (Olympiacos Piraeus), UCLA Bruins (Lakers), Washington Huskies (Kings).

Southwest (Big 12/Big East/West Coast) Gonzaga Bulldogs (Spurs), Iowa State Cyclones (Pelicans), Kansas Jayhawks (Mavericks), Villanova Wildcats (Grizzlies), West Virginia Mountaineers (CSKA Moscow), Xavier Musketeers (Rockets).

When you put it all together, you’ll get something that looks like this:

Villanova vs. UNC

Respect to all the people simulating through seasons of ‘College Hoops 2K8’ on X-Box 360. If you want a more modern college basketball game, this is about as good as it gets.
