The Connecticut Huskies entered the American Athletic Conference tournament needing to boost their bubble resume, having been on the borderline of the NCAA Tournament for much of the season. After an impressive weekend, UConn is one win away from taking the decision out of the selection committee's hands.
First, the Huskies edged out Cincinnati in by far the craziest game of the postseason, a quadruple-overtime epic that featured this 70-foot buzzer-beater to force even more extra time. After that marathon game, it was fair to wonder how much gas the Huskies had left in their next game.
Turns out, UConn has plenty left. They took down regular season champs Temple in convincing fashion with a 77-62 win, and now the Huskies are in pretty good shape. Even if they get upset by Memphis in Sunday's finale, they have likely done enough to earn an at-large bid.
Memphis is here after an unlikely run to the final round, popping Tulsa's bubble on Friday and then routing Tulane by 20 points. The Tigers don't really have an NCAA Tournament resume, but they're hoping to be the latest team to crash the party. They'll certainly hope to put up a bigger fight against UConn than they did in the regular season -- the Huskies destroyed Memphis by 20 points in their last meeting on Feb 4.
