Washington’s Malik Dime suspended after he slapped a heckling fan

Another lowlight in a season full of them for Washington.

Malik Dime is Washington’s leading shot blocker this season, but he was in street clothes on Thursday night because of a broken pinkie when the Huskies played Colorado. The home fans used this opportunity to heckle Dime on the sidelines, and the senior big man reportedly struck back. Literally.

Dime slapped a Colorado fan for talking trash, according to multiple reports. Washington has suspended Dime indefinitely.

Washington coach Lorenzo Romar acknowledged the incident after the game:

BSN Denver has a first-hand account of the incident from the student section:

“We were talking the usual game talk with the players like we usually do,” Dylan, a CU student said. “Malik looked over at us at one point and said ‘I’m gonna come over there and slap the s*** out of you.’ We didn’t think that was real so we just laughed and then at the end of the half he came over to us and pretended like he was giving me a handshake and I reached out and he pulled back and slapped me in the face and the follow through hit the person sitting right next to me, which was Brian.”

“I thought it was a real handshake,” Brian told. “He came over with a windup, it was a hard hit. It’s a double face, there’s no way around that.”

“One slap, two faces, I was impressed, he’s got a big wingspan,” Dylan remarked.

This is just another lowlight in a Washington season that has gone off the rails. Despite having the likely No. 1 overall pick in the NBA draft in freshman point guard Markelle Fultz, the Huskies are just 9-15 overall.

By the way, Colorado won 81-66.
