Dayton has a student-run Mandarin Chinese broadcast team that has over 1,000 listeners abroad

How cool!

We all know the students on the court during the NCAA tournament are great. But there is a group of students from the University of Dayton doing something pretty incredible off the court as well. Xueyin Shi and Yiqing Zhou are part of a five-member team who have been broadcasting UD basketball games in Mandarin all season long.

On Friday night, the team was on site to call the Dayton Flyers-Wichita State Shockers game.

There are roughly 700 Chinese students at the University of Dayton. According to a profile done by CBS This Morning, this is the university’s first foreign broadcast in which around 1,000 fans from abroad tuned in. Xueyin Shi and Yiqing Zhou are also not sports or journalism majors. In fact, they are graduate students studying electrical engineering who have found a deep love for college basketball. This is the second season for the broadcast team and we hope it continues for many more.

Plot twist: Xueyin Shi and Yiqing Zhou have also been dating for five years! Solid date nights at the game, in my opinion.
