The College Basketball Invitational provides an alternative for those of us wanting to scratch that postseason hoops itch, with 16 teams set to duke it out to determine a champion by the end of March.
The CBI features two teams ranked in the RPI top 100 in the Utah Valley Wolverines (No. 83) and the South Dakota Coyotes (No. 91), with both teams falling in their conference tournaments in the WAC and Summit League, respectively.
Format
There are 16 teams in the CBI that will fight through a single-elimination bracket. Once the field is reduced to just four teams, the semifinals will be re-bracketed. Every game through the semifinals are on the home court of one of the teams.
For the championship the final two teams will play a best-of-three series with one team hosting one game and the other team hosting up to two games.
