The Villanova Wildcats are college basketball’s national champions for the 2017-18 season. They beat Michigan in the title game on Monday at the Alamodome in San Antonio, 79-62.
Here’s the One Shining Moment montage that played on TBS shortly after the game ended:
A version of this montage has been airing at the conclusion of every NCAA tournament since 1987. The song’s composer is David Barrett, who knew he had college basketball’s new soundtrack as soon as he wrote it. Paired with highlights from the tournament, the song has been a perfect way to cap off Big Dances for more than three decades now.
Of course, it’s not hard to make an emotional, entertaining tribute video for the NCAA tournament. This event gives us incredible moments every year, and pretty much any inspiring tournament moment could fit with One Shining Moment. This year’s spate of Cinderellas — like Loyola-Chicago, UMBC, Marshall, and Buffalo — were as much a part of the story of this tournament as anything that happened in the Final Four.
The players in this tournament are what make it great. They deserve more than commemoration in an amazing video, but the video’s always a worthwhile watch.
