LSU basketball player Wayde Sims was shot and killed early Friday morning near the campus of Southern University. Sims’ death has been confirmed by the school.

The shooting occurred outside a Subway restaurant at 12:25 a.m. Police are categorizing it as a homicide.
“We are all devastated,” head coach Will Wade said in a statement. “We need your prayers for Wayde, for his family, for all of us. We are heartbroken.”
LSU teammate Aaron Epps also confirmed Sims’ death with a late night tweet.

Sims was entering his junior season as a 20-year-old forward for the Tigers. He averaged 5.6 points per game as a sophomore last season.
