LSU basketball player Wayde Sims killed in shooting

Wayde Sims, a 20-year-old forward for the Tigers, was shot and killed on Friday morning.

LSU basketball player Wayde Sims was shot and killed early Friday morning near the campus of Southern University. Sims’ death has been confirmed by the school.

The shooting occurred outside a Subway restaurant at 12:25 a.m. Police are categorizing it as a homicide.

“We are all devastated,” head coach Will Wade said in a statement. “We need your prayers for Wayde, for his family, for all of us. We are heartbroken.”

LSU teammate Aaron Epps also confirmed Sims’ death with a late night tweet.

Sims was entering his junior season as a 20-year-old forward for the Tigers. He averaged 5.6 points per game as a sophomore last season.

LSU will hold a news conference on Friday morning following Sims’ passing.
