US Army All-American Bowl 2012: West Dominates, Cal Wins The Day

The West team convincingly beat the East, but the real story of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl was the huge recruiting day had by the Cal Bears.

It started early for Cal, as Cal grabbed a commitment from four-star receiver Jordan Payton. That one wasn't exactly a surprise, but when Ellis McCarthy pulled the trigger, more than a few Bears fans were surprised to see that one of the top defensive tackles West of the Mississippi was headed to Berkeley.

Then came the capper, as California landed the nation's top safety, Shaq Thompson. A five-star and two four-stars in a single day? That's some serious work by Cal's staff.

But the Golden Bears weren't the only team to have multiple commitments on Saturday.

Louisville landed a pair of top linebackers in Nick Dawson and Keith Brown. Both four-stars are expected to play immediately for Charlie Strong's defense.

And Miami also grabbed commitments from two top defenders -- safety Deon Bush and linebacker/end Tyriq McCord. McCord still plans to visit USC, so this one might not be over.
