Aziz Shittu Commits To Stanford Over USC, Cal, UCLA

Aziz Shittu, the No. 3-rated defensive end recruit in the nation according to Rivals, has committed to Stanford, announcing the news on National Signing Day 2012. Shittu, who played for Buhach High School in Atwater, California, chose the Cardinal over USC and Cal, among other schools.

Shittu's decision came after an especially cloudy forecast as to his final destination. The prospect took five visits -- to Cal, Texas A&M, UCLA, USC and Stanford -- and even Tweeted (publicly) to the University of Oregon last week to see they were still recruiting him. According to the Sacremento Bee, Shittu is the kind of recruit that's relished the swarming attention thrust upon a top recruit.

"Aziz loves it," [Bucach head coach Kevin] Swartwood said. "Not so much the drama, but the attention and publicity that goes along with being a D-1 recruit.

Shittu, a 6-foot-3, 275 lb. strongside defensive end, is listed as the fourth best overall prospect in the state of California, and the 27th overall prospect in the nation. His commitment caps a historic haul for the Cardinal, which could finish in the Top 10 recruiting classes nationally.
