Eddie Vanderdoes has made his decision, committing to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Placer defensive tackle was highly sought after by numerous schools. Vanderdoes had 39 offers on National Signing Day, including schools like Alabama, UCLA, USC and Washington (the schools where Vanderdoes officially visited).

From SB Nation's Bud Elliott:

I saw Vanderdoes recently at Nike's The Opening, where he was extremely impressive. Vanderdoes also has excellent length. He is a physical, tough player with a mean streak.

Vanderdoes committed to USC early in the process before reconsidering his decision and reopening his commitment in late December. He took officials to USC, Notre Dame and Alabama on the final three recruiting weekends before making his decision to commit to Notre Dame.

Vanderdoes is on the shortlist as one of the top defensive tackle prospects in the country and is listed as a five-star recruit by all the major services. He is considered a top possibility to be a breakout star his freshman season, as he already has the natural size and strength to be an instant contributor at defensive tackle. This is a huge victory for Notre Dame that's coming off a BCS title bid last season and could use Vanderdoes as soon as possible.

Vanderdoes is very talented. He has exceptional ability to hold his spot and fight his man one-on-one. He isn't worried at all about contact and plays close up and as much as possible. He's sound in his defensive technique and engages his man with physical ferocity, making it very hard for an offensive lineman to win an individual battle with him. Vanderdoes figures to give the Irish a pretty relentless pass rusher and a tenacious run stopper on the inside.
