Kyle Allen releases top schools: Notre Dame and others for top QB recruit

Kyle Allen, the five-star quarterback recruit from Scottsdale (Ariz.) Desert Mountain High School, announced his top schools Tuesday. The list is Ohio State, Notre Dame, UCLA, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M, in no order.

Allen's recruitment is blowing up. He's added recent offers from Notre Dame and Ohio State. He's long been recruited by UCLA and Arizona State. Scout now regards him as the No. 1 pro-style passer, and all recruiting services believe he is a top-five recruit at the position.

UCLA is a strong candidate to land Allen's commitment. He likes offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone, and is a West Coast kid.

Allen spoke with SB Nation about his Ohio State offer and how Urban Meyer projects him to fit into the Buckeye offense, which is traditionally more of a spread attack that uses a running quarterback.

The inclusion of Notre Dame is not unexpected, but is very interesting with the recent development that Notre Dame lost its starting quarterback, and figures to have very little depth in 2014 should Golson not be able to return to school.

Oklahoma State makes sense, as it is a passing-friendly offense under head coach Mike Gundy. The Pokes have also recently sent a quarterback to the NFL in Brandon Weeden.

Texas A&M is yet another passing-friendly offense and just produced a redshirt freshman Heisman Trophy winner.

Arizona State is noticeably absent from Allen's list, and that's a huge missed opportunity for the Sun Devils.
