Consensus four-star linebacker Derik "D.J." Calhoun will make his pledge this weekend, as the Bay Area product will announce his commitment at Nike's The Opening in Portland.
SB Nation's Derrell Warren writes in his scouting report of Calhoun that despite being somewhat undersized for his position at just 5'11, the El Cerrito (Calif.) player still projects as a very effective strongside linebacker at the college level due to his explosion and powerful tackling ability from a 200-pound frame. He's the No. 10 outside linebacker in the nation per 247's composite, with Rivals giving him the most optimistic rating of any of the four services by calling him the No. 7 OLB in the nation.
19 schools are in the chase for Calhoun, with home-state options USC, UCLA, and Cal offering and presumed to be amongst the leaders. Other Pac-12 schools hoping to hear Calhoun commit include Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Oregon State, Utah, Washington, and Washington State, with Miami, Nebraska, and Boise State amongst the nationally prominent programs with offers out.
