Wednesday was Signing Day, when college football teams could officially sign 2015 freshmen. While many had been committed for months, most had not officially joined their universities, and Wednesday provided the first chance for schools to brag about their crops.
Signing Day is always a spectacle, as dozens of elite players don't just announce — some go so far as to announce with live animal props on ESPNU. Wednesday was no exception, including a four-star picking Texas due to coin flip, BYU signing a 410-pound Tongan athlete with no recruiting ratings, Nebraska's fax cam including Teletubbies, old Michigan coach Brady Hoke had to interview new Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, a four-star picked Notre Dame while speaking German and French, and a UCLA four-star still unsigned after news of Bruin coach shakeups.
And lifelong USC fan Snoop Dogg became a UCLA fan when his son picked the Bruins.
Alabama finished with the top 247Sports Composite class yet again, for the fifth year in a row. USC emerged from its years of NCAA sanctions to finish No. 2, just a point shy of Bama. Florida State, Tennessee, and LSU round out the top five.
As far as the day's new commits went, the big winners included UCLA, Ohio State, and Auburn, with new head coaches at Florida and Michigan turning in respectable finishes. Boise State and San Jose State led the mid-major ranks.
Below is a rundown of all the day's major news and the final Composite rankings:
