Seven of the top nine pro-style quarterbacks in the 2016 class (by the 247Sports Composite) had already made their college decisions known. After Wednesday, that number rose to eight with the commitment of Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic gunslinger Jarrett Guarantano to Tennessee over Ohio State and Rutgers.
Guarantano is rated a four-star recruit by the 247Sports Composite, ranking as the No. 6 pro-style quarterback in the country and the No. 4 player in the state of New Jersey. He announced his accelerated decision timeline after a March 22 visit to Tennessee, marking the Vols as the favorite for many, but took April visits to both Ohio State and Rutgers.
Tennssee's chances strongly improved when it parted ways with QB commitment Austin Kendall, who then switched to Oklahoma. Earlier Wednesday, Ohio State accepted a commitment from four-star Texas passer Tristen Wallace, signaling that it was out of the running for Guarantano.
Guarantano is the highest-rated 2016 recruit for Tennessee. Rutgers still has a chance with four-star QB Dwayne Haskins, who plans to make his announcement in late May.
