Five-star cornerback Kristian Fulton has committed to LSU, choosing the Tigers over Florida and Arkansas.
Fulton, from Archbishop Rummel (La.), is the top-ranked player in Louisiana, the second-best cornerback in the class of 2016 and the 21st-best player in the country, according to the 247Sports composite ratings. At 6-foot, 177 pounds, he's a good-sized player in an era of bigger cornerbacks.
LSU has generally dominated with in-state commitments, and even more so in this cycle. As SB Nation recruiting analyst Bud Elliott wrote:
Let's apply the annual LSU rule that seems to work extremely well:
- Prospect is from somewhere in Louisiana South of Highway 84? Check,
- LSU expressed interest throughout the cycle? Check,
- Prospect does not have family connection to another contender? Check,
- Confirm that Alabama is not the top competitor: (It's Florida, Check).
Therefore, predict the player will sign at LSU.
In this case, the LSU rule worked. Fulton committed to the Tigers to try to become the next great LSU defensive back. He adds to a class that should be No. 1 in the country, beating out Alabama after the Crimson Tide's run of five straight No. 1 classes. He joins fellow Louisiana native Rashard Lawrence as the second five-star in the class.
