The UTEP Miners have hired Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line coach Sean Kugler as the football program's next head coach, according to FootballScoop.com. Asher Wildman of El Paso TV station KVIA confirms the report.

Kugler's most recent college job was at Boise State, where he served as the Broncos' offensive line coach and assistant head coach during their undefeated 2006 season. Before that, he spent seven years at UTEP coaching the tight ends and offensive line. Between his college stints, Kugler held various coaching positions in the NFL with the Steelers, Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills.

Former Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Juan Castillo and Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter were among others linked to the position.

The Miners finished the 2012 season with a 3-9 record under Mike Price. Following the team's 33-24 loss to Rice to close out the campaign, Price retired after an 31-year coaching career. During an nine-year stint at UTEP, Price compiled a 48-61 record.
