College football rankings, Week 6: Florida State jumps past LSU to No. 3 in AP poll

The Tigers and Seminoles switched spots after Florida State beat South Florida and LSU struggled early against Towson.

After a 30-17 victory over the South Florida Bulls, the Florida State Seminoles moved into the No. 3 spot in this week's Associated Press Top 25 poll, leaping the No. 4 LSU Tigers as we head into October.

The Seminoles squeaked by the Tigers, landing just 39 points ahead of LSU for the No. 3 spot. The Oregon Ducks continued their stay at No. 2 for a second week, as the Ducks' 51-26 victory over the Washington State Cougars was enough to hold off Florida State's charge.

All three teams continue to chase the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide. The Tide continue to ride atop the poll, collecting all 60 available first-place votes.

After a Thursday night loss by the Stanford Cardinal opened some space in the poll, the West Virginia Mountaineers and Texas Longhorns were also among the big movers in the poll.

With the previously No. 8 Cardinal out of the way, West Virginia climbed from No. 9 to No. 8 on the strength of their 70-63 victory over the Baylor Bears, while Texas jumped from No. 12 to No. 11 in this week's poll.
