Virginia Tech cornerback Antone Exum tore his right ACL and lateral meniscus, the school announced Sunday. Exum may undergo surgery to repair the injury this week, and he is expected to miss six to nine months. He suffered the injury during a pick-up basketball game.

Exum was a standout player in the ACC last season, earning a second-team all-conference nod. He also earned MVP honors in the 2012 Russell Athletic Bowl for a key fourth-quarter interception that helped his team win the game.
Exum finished 2012 seventh on the team in tackles with 48, and he had a team-high five interceptions. He also broke up 16 passes and forced a pair of fumbles. He has been a major part of Virginia Tech's secondary since his redshirt freshman season, when he made five starts and appeared in 14 games. He started all 14 games in 2011, and he logged more than 900 snaps in 2012.
