Kevin Minter will leave LSU for 2013 NFL Draft

The Tigers' junior defensive leader is projected as the No. 7 inside linebacker available in the draft.

LSU Tigers junior inside linebacker Kevin Minter will forgo his senior season at the university and enter the 2013 NFL Draft, according to Joe Schad of ESPN.

Minter, who was ranked the No. 7 inside linebacker by Mocking The Draft, had 130 tackles (55 solo) in 13 games for the Tigers in 2012. The 6'2, 242-pound Minter also had one interception, one forced fumble, four sacks, four quarterback hurries and five passes broken up on the year.

LSU coaches were reportedly urging the junior to return for his final year of eligibility because of his leadership skills. Minter anchored the middle of the Tigers' defense, made a name for himself with his hard-hitting style against the run, and has proven himself to be an ample defender against the pass.

With his current projection it is likely that Minter would be taken early in the second round of the draft.
