The Kent St. Golden Flashes hope to win their first bowl game in team history on Sunday when they take on the Arkansas St. Red Wolves in the GoDaddy.com Bowl.
Both teams' head coaches have been hired away, making it the fifth-straight time that at least one school appearing in the GoDaddy.com bowl will play without their head coach. Darrell Hazell will take over the Purdue Boilermakers next sesaon but will coach Kent St. in the bowl game, while the Auburn Tigers hired Gus Malzahn away from Arkansas St.
The Golden Flashes had an opportunity to play in a BCS game, but fell to the Northern Illinois Huskies 44-37 in the MAC championship game. Disappointment aside, this is still the program's first bowl appearance in 40 years, and only their third bowl appearance overall.
Running back Dri Archer and Trayion Durham lead the Kent St. rushing attack, averaging a combined 200 yards per game on the ground. The Golden Flashes own the 16th-ranked rushing attack in the country, but only average 162.9 yards through the air.
The Red Wolves boast a more prolific passing attack, with two-time Sun Belt Player of the Year Ryan Aplin leading the offense at quarterback. Aplin tossed 23 touchdowns this season and only threw four interceptions, completing 68 percent of his passes.
