No. 3 Florida State 41, No. 7 Miami 14
Another primetime matchup against a top 10 team, another convincing blowout over a conference opponent for Florida State. The only real drama in this game came in the form of some good, ol' fashioned eye-gouging. Devonta Freeman led the way for the Seminoles, racking up 172 yards of total offense and three touchdowns. After the game, Florida State fans were chanting, "We want 'Bama!" Honestly, it's getting harder and harder to blame them.
No. 4 Ohio State 56, Purdue 0
Ohio State demolished Purdue in road play, 56-0. The Buckeyes were nearly flawless in the win, rolling up 640 yards of total offense and holding the Boilermakers to 116 of their own, but it's really not that difficult to look flawless against Purdue.
No. 8 Clemson 59, Virginia 10
Tajh Boyd found Sammy Watkins for touchdowns on Boyd's first and last series of the game, and in between it didn't get much prettier for Virginia. Call it 24-for-29 for 377 yards and three scores for Boyd—the type of game that'd keep a guy in the good graces of Heisman voters, had Boyd's hopes not been buried by Florida State.
No. 9 Missouri 31, Tennessee 3
Missouri put to rest early any concerns of a letdown following last week's heartbreaking loss to South Carolina, beating Tennessee at home with ease. The Tigers got out to a 24-3 lead at halftime and coasted for the final two quarters. Missouri quarterback Maty Mauk had another characteristically inefficient performance but nevertheless topped 100 yards both passing and running.
No. 11 Auburn 35, Arkansas 17
Thanks to some off-the-field drama between head coaches Gus Malzahn and Bret Bielema, this is a game that could develop into an interesting rivalry over the next few years (particularly if Bielema can get Arkansas turned around). For now, Auburn is the far better team and demonstrated as much by running all over the Razorbacks in Fayetteville.
No. 12 Texas A&M 57, UTEP 7
Texas A&M trailed 7-2 early and didn't look great in the first quarter, but this game was never really in doubt. The Aggies outgained UTEP 564 to 198 and Johnny Manziel had a very Johnny Manziel game, accounting for 6 touchdowns and over 300 yards of total offense.
No. 14 South Carolina 34, Mississippi State 16
South Carolina pulled away in a 17-0 third quarter to put the game out of reach. The Gamecocks offense was held largely in check, gaining only 12 first downs on the day and converting one of 10 third downs, but the Bulldogs turned the ball over five times--a great way to lose a game all by yourself.
No. 18 Oklahoma State 52, No. 15 Texas Tech 34
Clint Chelf did it all for the Cowboys, passing for a pair of scores and running in two more, including a 67-yard run that prompted play-by-play man Gus Johnson to say that he had "gettin' away from the cops speed." Texas Tech showed some fight, bouncing back from an early 21-3 deficit to make it a four-point game at halftime, but the Cowboys pulled away with a 21-point third quarter and never looked back.
No. 16 Fresno State 41, Nevada 23
Once again, the season's most likely BCS-buster won a game that was closer than it should've been until the very end. The Wolf Pack entered the game 3-5 and 2-3 in the Mountain West, but came within a score of the Bulldogs with 8:48 to go in the fourth. Derek Carr finished with 487 yards passing, with Josh Harper contributing a ridiculous 253 of those. With Texas Tech falling, expect Fresno State to inch even closer to a BCS bid.
No. 17 Northern Illinois 63, Massachusetts 19
NIU's star quarterback Jordan Lynch rushed for 119 yards and four touchdowns in the Huskies' romp, and he added 160 yards and another score through the air. UMass falls to 1-7 on the season and remains very, very bad at football.
No. 20 UCLA 45, Colorado 23
The Bruins got off to a slow start against Colorado but the Buffaloes proved to be no match, as UCLA beat them by a margin that looks a lot better on the scoreboard than it did on the field.
No. 22 Michigan State 29, No. 21 Michigan 6
One team looked like the little brother of the rivalry. The other team was Michigan State. The Spartans' defense annihilated Michigan's offensive line for the duration of the game, forcing the Wolverines into -48 yards rushing—the worst total in Michigan history.
No. 24 Wisconsin 28, Iowa 9
Wisconsin overcame a slow start to overwhelm the undergunned Iowa Hawkeyes. Joel Stave threw two touchdowns on the day, and two Iowa turnovers deep in its own territory helped the Badgers pull away in a lopsided second half.
No. 25 Notre Dame 38, Navy 34
In one of the most entertaining games of an otherwise dull Saturday afternoon, Notre Dame used Tarean Folston's late fourth quarter touchdown to put away the frisky Midshipmen. Folston logged 140 yards on 18 carries in the win.
Georgia 23, Florida 20
Georgia ran out to a 20-0 lead then hung on for dear life as the Gators rallied, but Florida couldn't get the Bulldogs off the field at the end of the game, and that was that. Todd Gurley was a welcome re-addition to the lineup as he logged 155 total yards on eight touches... before being slowed by another injury.
Nebraska 27, Northwestern 24
WE HAVE A HAIL MARY. REPEAT, WE HAVE A HAIL MARY. Nebraska walk-on QB Ron Kellogg III led the Huskers on a desperation drive at the end of the game and connected with Jordan Westerkamp for a 49-yard touchdown off a deflection on the last play of the game. Northwestern falls to an unbelievable 0-5 in Big Ten play after its best game since its late loss to Ohio State.
