Steve Patterson, Oliver Luck finalists for Texas AD job, per report

The Longhorns appear to be closing in on their next athletic director. Will it be Steve Patterson from Arizona State or Oliver Luck from West Virginia?

Bob Levey

Oliver Luck and Steve Patterson have emerged as the two finalists to become the next athletic director at the University of Texas. Luck is the current AD at West Virginia, while Patterson oversees the athletic department at Arizona State.

Luck has been viewed as a top candidate for the job for a couple of weeks now. The inclusion of Patterson is a bit of a surprise, though; a week ago, it seemed he was not being viewed as a serious candidate. After meeting with an advisement group, it seems the Longhorns decided Patterson was a viable option.

Patterson was named athletic director at Arizona State on March 28, 2012. He played a large role in bringing current football coach Todd Graham to Tempe and helped get the ball rolling on a handful of large-scale projects, including future renovations to Sun Devil Stadium. Patterson graduated from the University of Texas in 1980 and earned his law degree from UT's law school in 1984.
