Stop me if you've heard this before: 14-0 Mount Union and 14-0 UW-Whitewater will play each other in the Division III Championship Game. This will be the eighth time in the past nine seasons that these two teams have played each other for the title, with Whitewater holding a 4-3 advantage in the series, including three straight from 2009 to 2011.
Mount Union had to come back late for a 41-40 win over North Central (Ill.) to clinch its 17th berth in the Stagg Bowl. Kevin Burke threw for 163 yards and rushed for 131 more for the Purple Raiders, and scored three total touchdowns to lead the way.
UW-Whitewater had a similarly perilous experience in its semifinal game, winning by the thinnest of margins over Mary Hardin-Baylor, 16-15. The Warhawks overcame an early 12-0 deficit, but had to hang on late after UMHB made it a one-point game with 3:29 remaining.
The Championship Game will take place at 7 p.m. ET on Dec. 20, in Salem, Va., and it can be seen on ESPNU. You can check out a full playoff bracket here, courtesy of NCAA.com.
