Mike Shanahan's tenure in Washington is done, which means Dan Snyder's team is looking for a new head coach. One of the hottest young names in the coaching circle is Stanford head man David Shaw, and Washington has reportedly inquired about Shaw's availability through a third-party, Adam Schefter is reporting.
Redskins' candidate list likely to include Jay Gruden, Mike Zimmer, Lovie Smith. Redskins inquired through third party about David Shaw.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) December 30, 2013
Shaw has been connected to nearly every NFL opening over the past two seasons as well as most college openings, but he has flatly denied any rumors of him taking another job.
David Shaw, when jokingly told he's on USC's "short list" -- "It might be short, but it's one person too long."— Stewart Mandel (@slmandel) October 1, 2013
Shaw is a Stanford alum, playing wide receiver at the school from 1991-94 and getting his first big coaching break as the offensive coordinator in 2007. With a 34-6 record and three BCS bowl appearances in three seasons and his history with the school, it seems unlikely anyone will be able to pry him away.
Reported a while back NFL teams will have difficult if not impossible time getting David Shaw out of Stanford. HOU wanted him. WSH too ...— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) December 30, 2013
