Blake Bell starting for Oklahoma, Trevor Knight out with injury

The Belldozer will get his chance to start after Trevor Knight went down with an injury against West Virginia.

Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Trevor Knight will miss at least one game with a bruised knee, Bob Stoops told the media during a conference call on Monday. Knight hurt his knee in the Sooners' 16-7 win over West Virginia on Saturday. Blake Bell will start in his absence.

Stoops wasn't firm on giving a timeline for Knight's return, but did say that he will miss their upcoming game against Tulsa on Sept. 14 for sure. The Sooners then travel to South Bend to face Notre Dame after a bye week and, if Bell performs well this weekend, there will be a lot of people clamoring for him to remain as the starter.

Knight has failed to impress after winning the competition for the starting job right before the season. He's completed less than 44 percent of his passes and has thrown for only 205 yards, though has thrown four touchdowns compared to just three interceptions.

Knight's rushed for a solid 145 rushing yards as well, but that dimension of the offense won't be going away with Bell taking the snaps.
