North Dakota State head coach Craig Bohl is headed to the Wyoming Cowboys with three straight national titles under his belt. The Bison trampled Towson Saturday afternoon in Frisco, Texas, strolling to a 35-7 victory to clinch the three-peat.
North Dakota State started the scoring early on, as John Crockett's two-yard run gave them a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Star Towson running back Terrance West responded, as his three-yard touchdown run tied it at the end of the quarter.
The Bison began to run away with it in the second quarter, with Ryan Smith's five-yard touchdown run giving them a 14-7 lead and Brock Jensen's 12-yard pass to Zach Vraa providing a 21-7 halftime cushion. Jensen scored a nine-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter, becoming the third different North Dakota State player to score a rushing touchdown in the game and giving the Bison a 28-7 lead.
North Dakota State put it away in the fourth quarter, as Sam Ojuri became the fourth different Bison player to score a rushing touchdown, punching it in from one yard out to make it 35-7.
For the Bison, it's the perfect end to a perfect season. North Dakota State went 15-0, starting the season with a 24-21 win over Kansas State and winning just one other game by less than 15 points. The Bison's dominating defense gave up more than 20 points just three times, and never more than 26. The team hosted College GameDay earlier in the year, and our own Rodger Sherman wrote exactly why they deserved it.
Box Score Hero: Brock Jensen. The Bison quarterback completed 13 of 18 passes for 135 yards for a score while also running three times for 20 yards and a touchdown.
But Did They Cover? North Dakota State were 13.5-point favorites, so they did.
