Ole Miss defensive tackle and top NFL Draft prospect Robert Nkemdiche is in stable condition after falling approximately 15 feet at a hotel, where police found a small amount of suspected marijuana in his room, according to a report provided by the Atlanta Police Department.
At approximately 2318 hours, Zone Two units responded to a person injured call where a male had fallen from a hotel room window. Upon arrival, the victim was conscious and breathing. He was transported to Grady Memorial and was in stable condition. Inside the hotel room, units located a small amount of suspected marijuana. The window was also broken out. It appears that the victim broke the window and then walked approximately 15 feet and climbed over a wall and fell approximately 15 feet. GI Squad and the Narcotics Unit responded to the scene along with the Crime Scene Unit. It should be noted that the injured person is Robert Nkemdiche, a football player from Ole Miss.
Atlanta police told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Nkemdiche has been charged with marijuana possession:
Ole Miss star Robert Nkemdiche has been charged with marijuana possession following his weekend fall from a wall outside a Buckhead hotel, Atlanta police told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Monday.
"Approximately 7 rolled marijuana cigarettes" were found in the hotel room tied to him at the Grand Hyatt Atlanta, a police report said.
The AJC posted what police say is the 911 call, in which the caller, who didn't claim to have witnessed the fall, describes Nkemdiche as "laid out," "delirious" and "covered in blood."
According to an early report, reportedly suffered "multiple cuts" in a fall from a fourth-floor hotel window. It was not immediately clear where Nkemdiche's fall occurred, or exactly when. Nkemdiche is from Loganville, Ga., fewer than 40 miles from Atlanta.
ESPN's David Ching spoke to someone who claims to be a witness:
Spoke to a guy yesterday who said he witnessed Nkemdiche's fall. If that guy's story is true, Nkemdiche's body must be made out of titanium. Won't get into all details, but gist is that Nkemdiche falls four floors and actually gets up and tries to walk it off. It also bears mentioning that we're talking about two separate falls. Not one that covered four floors.
It's been an at-times scary year for Nkemdiche and his brother, Denzel, both stars on the Ole Miss defense. In November, Denzel spent time in intensive care in a Mississippi hospital for an undisclosed reason.
Robert Nkemdiche is considered to be a likely top-10 pick in the spring's NFL Draft. A junior, he has 26 tackles this season for Hugh Freeze's Rebels, including seven tackles for loss and three sacks. Ole Miss will face Oklahoma State in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans on New Year's Day.
