ESPN commentator Keith Olbermann will not broadcast his show for the rest of the week following a Twitter fight with Penn State fans, the broadcasting company announced Tuesday. He will return to the show Monday.
Olbermann had twice singled out Penn State in January as the "world's worst in sports" -- once after the NCAA and the school reached a settlement restoring Joe Paterno's wins and once after the school's hockey team wore stickers to commemorate said restored wins.
Monday night, a former Penn State student tweeted Olbermann a link to the $13 million raised for charity at this year's THON fundraiser with the beginning of the school's famous chant -- the broadcaster did not oblige with the rest of it.
@lisaadeleon ...Pitiful

This quickly turned into an all-out Twitter war, with Olbermann targeting Penn State students and fans in his mentions and in general.
.@dave_seidel No, Son. I said PSU students were pitiful. Had nothing to do with fundraising #AlsoPSUReadingComprehensionAppearsToBeWeak

I'd like to thank the students and alums of Penn State for proving my point about the mediocrity of their education and ethics.

.@ColinBenner Good for you. Doesn't change the school's reputation. Check back next century.

@EricOwensFS Don't make shit up, Sonny. You'll wind up running Penn State.

Olbermann apologized for the remarks Tuesday.
I apologize for the PSU tweets. I was stupid and childish and way less mature than the students there who did such a great fundraising job.
