No. 4 Baylor 56, SMU 21: Bears fans who'd spent Thursday night chuckling at rival (totally a rival) TCU's struggles at Minnesota had an awkward hour or so Friday. SMU exploded for an entire September 2014 worth of offense in the game's first eight minutes, but that was about all the souped-up Mustangs had to offer. A clock management debacle gave us this photo of confused SMU bros, which took over all of college football Internet for the rest of the night, and it was all Bears from there on out. [Three things to know * Baylor recap]
No. 5 Michigan State 37, Western Michigan 24: WMU is pretty damn fun, to be honest. Coach P.J. Fleck tried to keep up with a kickoff return TD, which sums up the Bronco spirit just fine. If not for a late end zone pick, this could've been a one-score game or worse for the Spartans, but the final score looks pretty nice. A much bigger test awaits MSU, with No. 7 Oregon inbound next Saturday. [Michigan State recap * WMU recap]
No. 23 Boise State 16, Washington 13: Boise jumped out to a 16-0 lead, but special teams shenanigans (a punt return for a TD and a blocked punt) helped the Huskies make a game of it. The stout Bronco defense held up though, limiting Washington to 179 total yards of offense, and a missed Huskies field goal with 20 seconds left sealed the Boise victory.
