Texas quarterback Shane Buechele left the Longhorns' game against Cal with an injury Saturday night, with what the program said was a chest injury. But Buechele returned in the middle of the second quarter and appeared healthy.
The true freshman signal-caller took a heavy hit to the ground in the first quarter, when Cal defensive end DeVante Wilson drove him to the turf as Buechele released a pass. Tyrone Swoopes replaced him afterward.
After Buechele initially returned to the sidelines after his evaluation, Swoopes stayed on the field and led Texas down the field for a touchdown drive. Buechele stood on the sidelines in full equipment and watched. But upon coming back, he almost immediately chucked a 51-yard touchdown pass to receiver Jacore Warrick. He missed about one quarter of play time, and having him back on the field is a huge deal for Charlie Strong's team.
If there's more news on Buechele later, we'll add it to this post.
