As if the 66-3 mollywhopping wasn’t bad enough, Ole Miss fans and players apparently had to sit through this little shade session while the Rebels were getting worked on the field.
BRYANT DENNY STADIUM JUST PLAYED “MONEY FOR NOTHING” AGAINST OLE MISS. THIS IS THE GREATEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE
— Blake Bollinger (@wbbollinger) October 1, 2017
This is a not-so-subtle jab at the fact that Ole Miss paid money to football recruits in an NCAA scandal that is still ongoing. It’s directly related to Mississippi State linebacker Leo Lewis, who boosters at Ole Miss (and other schools) paid but were not able to land.
It ain’t the first time Bryant Denny Stadium’s sound system has gone petty either. After an NCAA scandal nearly derailed Auburn’s 2010 season in which Cam Newton took the college football world by storm, the PA system blared “Take The Money And Run” as well as “Son Of A Preacher Man” (Newton’s dad is a minister) during pregame warmups.
That resulted in a part-time staffer getting fired at the time. We’ll see if this recent incident has any repercussions.
