With one 97-yard runback, Tennessee did the unthinkable: The Vols actually scored on Alabama. It was not the offense that put it in the end zone, but rather a pick-six.
QB Tua Tagovailoa had an open tight end in the end zone, but he instead went the hard way trying to force a pass over the middle. As Daniel Bituli crossed the goal line, teammate Rashaan Gaulden sent a message to Bama fans in the stands.

The actual effect on the result of the game is academic at best. But there are implications of a certain monetary nature for some folks. Alabama came into the game as a 37-point favorite. A TD there for the men in Crimson would have put the Tide up 35-0. Instead, the score became 28-7, making it tougher for Bama to cover the high spread. The Tide would score to make it 31-7, but for bettors it’s a big blow for those who thought the Tide could clear the high bar that is a five-touchdown spread. Maybe Tim Tebow’s speech worked?
