No. 15 Washington State is cruising past Colorado on Saturday night in Pullman. The game’s not close, so I’d like to talk about halftime. Namely this:

I wondered the same. What, indeed, is going on at Wazzu?
The answer is homecoming chariot races. SB Nation’s Brian Floyd, a Washington State alum, informs me that these are an annual part of weeklong competitions around WSU’s homecoming. They once put fire on the chariots, but they don’t anymore.
I wonder why not.
They set the field on fire once. And that was the end of chariots with fire

Ah, that’s why not.
2011’s festivities, which didn’t involve flames:
I’ve only just learned about this tradition, but I’m already an enormous fan. What jumps out to me is how seriously everyone’s taking it.
Look at this young man with the red hair, and tell me he doesn’t want victory more than anything or anyone in the world:
The guy on the left, up front, looks gassed but determined. The guy in the back left looks like he’s laboring but nonetheless pretty set on victory himself. Love that heart.
