UCLA fired Jim Mora on his birthday and hired Chip Kelly on his birthday.— Brett Edgerton (@EditorEdge) November 25, 2017
So there’s that.
Yep, Nov. 25 is Kelly’s birthday.
Days prior, this happened to Jim Mora on Nov. 19:
USC: We’ll fire a dude at the airport the second they get home from a loss.— Richard Johnson (@RJ_Writes) November 19, 2017
UCLA: Hold my beer. https://t.co/zNRkZFKtXJ
Kelly’s giving the bigger gift to UCLA, bringing national attention and expectations to a program that’s been without them for a long time, despite bringing in a handful of five-star recruits along the way. He had a chance to take over the Gators and could’ve added plenty more suitors if he’d let the coaching carousel fill up a little more, but picking the Bruins this early also means a chance to catch up on recruiting before mid-December’s new early Signing Day.
This is rightly being called a game-changing hire by UCLA. We’ll see if Kelly still has his old touch, but just like that, the Bruins should be considered Pac-12 contenders in the near future.
So happy birthday and welcome home (to college football) to Kelly, and congrats to UCLA.
